Safely managing used lithium batteries has become a significant challenge for the waste industry. NERC and NEWMOA are jointly offering a two-part webinar series to help participants understand the different battery types, their uses, recycling opportunities, and safe handling and management at end-of-life. The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) New England Chapters, MassRecycle, and the Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NPPR) have partnered with NEWMOA and NERC to plan these webinars. This webinar is the second in the series and will include the following presenters and presentation topics: • Kevin Roche, EcoMaine: “Early Detection & Rapid Response Measures to Reduce Fire Risks” • Marc Morgan, “Transfer Station & Landfill in Lebanon, NH: Effective Responses to Fires at Transfer Stations & Landfills & Best Practices in Educating Residents About Li-Ion Batteries” • Mark Buckley, Republic Services: “Strategies that Haulers Can Deploy to Reduce Risk of Fires from Li-Ion Batteries”
