2010 Iowa Recycling Awards Call for Award Nominations Deadline: August 13, 2010
Iowa Recycling Association (IRA) is seeking nominations for its Annual Recycling Awards. Each year the Association recognizes outstanding recycling and recycling related efforts by individuals, businesses and organizations in Iowa.
Awards will be presented at the 2010 Iowa Recycling and Solid Waste Management Awards Luncheon hosted by Iowa Recycling Association and Iowa Society of Solid Waste Operations at the Isle Center, Bettendorf, Iowa on October 5.
Nomination Process Nominations are sought from the public and private sectorsfrom business, industry, schools, government, non-profit agencies, civic or volunteer organizations, and individuals. There is no limit on the number of programs or individuals you may nominate, but a program or individual can be entered in ONE category only. A panel of judges will evaluate entries. All winners will be notified by mid-September.
Each nomination must include: 1. Completed Nomination Form 2. Summary of the project/program not to exceed two (2) pages, single-spaced, and with font size no smaller than 12pt. The summary should emphasize significant accomplishments, unique or innovative aspects, impact (fiscal/economic, tons recycled, population served, audience reached, product sales, etc.), evidence of continuity and/or sustainability, and benefits to the recycling community. The summary should also include a history of the project and project goals. 3. Supporting materials not to exceed five (5) pages (press clippings, brochures, photographs, etc).
All nominations must be submitted electronically to the IRA office, tkurtz@iowarecycles.org by August 13, 5:00pm.
Award Categories 1. Recycler of the Year 2. Best Public Education Program/Campaign 3. Recycling Project/Facility of the Year 4. Best School/Organizational Recycling Program 5. Best Government Recycling Program 6. Best Business Recycling Program 7. Murray J. Fox Recycling Innovation Award
Awards Criteria In selecting award winners, the judges will consider: Mission—Does the project reflect the overall mission of Iowa Recycling Association, dedicated to a healthy environment and healthy economy by promoting recycling and recycling related activities? What are the significant accomplishments, unique or innovative aspects, and benefits to the recycling community? (40 points)
Impact—How has the proposed project/business/organization directly or indirectly impacted communities (fiscal/economic, tons recycled, population served, audience reached, product sales, etc.)? Has the program been replicated or could it be replicated? Is there evidence of continuity and/or sustainability of the project? (20 points)
Support—Promotional materials/positive media coverage/letters of support or recommendation. (20 points)
Application Completeness—Was the application clearly presented, well written and in accordance with all instructions? (20 points)
